Dr Kate Bishop
I am a clinical psychologist who has specialised in supporting children, young people and their families to improve their mental health and well-being. I have worked for the NHS since 2011 across a range of services including in specialist CAMHS, paediatric services, and most recently as clinical lead for Southampton's Mental Health in Schools Teams.
I hold the following qualifications:
-
DClinPsych, University of Exeter.
-
MSc Child and Adolescent Mental Health, First Class, University College London.
-
BSC(Hons) Psychology, First Class, University of Bath
I have also had additional post-doctoral training and experience in a range of therapeutic approaches including various CBT masterclasses; systemic family therapy; mindfulness-based CBT and compassion focussed therapy.
I value working collaboratively with young people and families to combine their lived experience of their difficulties with my clinical evidence-based knowledge of ‘what works’ to develop a bespoke, manageable yet effective treatment plan. I strive to be creative and playful, adapting my approach based upon the person’s learning style and preferences.
In addition to my therapy work, I have specialist training and expertise in the diagnostic assessment of neurodevelopmental conditions, particularly where an individual’s presentation may be complex. I believe that such assessment should be comprehensive to allow a good understanding of individual strengths and difficulties, thus enabling the provision of clear recommendations for support going forwards.
